Hello all Sea Lion families. It is a pleasure to begin the 2013-2014 season as your Head Coach. I just wanted to discuss some philosophy and items I as your Head Coach will be preaching and practicing. It is my dearest belief that anyone can become a great champion in swimming. The beautiful thing about this sport is that champions come in all shapes and sizes, there isn't that stereotypical swimmer build that pre disposes success. The greatest asset to being a champion in swimming is attitude and discipline. By living a devoted lifestyle to health and well being, and by being keen and open minded it is the key ingredients to success in this sport. This is why I love coaching it, and this is what I am devoted to teaching.
The way we eat will have a great deal to do with our success, understanding that food is the make up of our bodies can sometimes lead to good healthy food choices. Junk food serves a great purpose in our lives, it provides taste. Taste is only a momentary stimulus, so when it comes to junk food, go ahead and have a taste, but just a taste. Healthy natural food provides taste and nourishment, so go ahead and fill up on that. Too often children give into the impulse to continuously fulfill the exclusive stimulus of taste and fill up on junk food. The secret is to be disciplined, taste the junk, fill up on the good nourishing food, and watch the amazing machine of your body grow, and be healthy.
Imagination is an important area of success manifestation. Your conscious mind is the lead voice in your thought process, and your subconscious mind is the actual operator of how your thought process and behaviors unfold. Our subconscious mind is under constant temptation to dis obey your conscious wishes. Fear can hijack our subconscious mind and lead us to a mentality of avoidance, which leads to unconstructive behaviors such as sarcasm, over reluctance and eventually low self esteem. Again a disciplined mind can recognize that fear is not a driving force of our actions, and it is the light inside us we need to strive towards, when we see the light inside of us we strive with free will towards our excellence, and become stronger people as a result of it. It is when our conscious mind drives our actions we demonstrate control over our lives and have the vision to see the light within ourselves.
I wish all swimmers on our team a great year, and look forward to striving towards our excellence.
