At the Calgary Winter Club we offer a large selection of Aquafit classes for our members. There are an average of 13 Aquafit classed that run each week and they vary in intensity and fitness level to meet the needs and abilities of all our adult and/or senior members.

SHALLOW WATER
This class offers a total body workout appropriate for any fitness level.  Movements are used to manipulate the water’s buoyancy to engage core stabilization, increased resistance to improve muscular endurance and moderate to high intensity aerobic workouts to improve cardiovascular fitness.

DEEP WATER*
A non-weight bearing workout for all fitness levels. Cues are given to increase or decrease intensity. Swimming skill is not necessary as a flotation belt is worn. Core muscles are constantly challenged and engaged for the body to remain vertical.

SENIOR AQUAFITNESS*
A 45-minute, shallow water class encourages self-pacing and offers modifications for all levels of fitness, with an emphasis on functional fitness.  Definitely challenging!  Definitely fun! A Senior package option is available.

WATER RUNNING (Wednesday Morning and Thursday at Noon)*
A non-impact, high intensity, interval training class that focuses on challenging the cardiovascular system, without pounding on the pavement. Running technique is very specific and necessary. A flotation belt is worn, and then tethered to the lane rope. A moderate level of fitness is recommended.

SERIOUS STRENGTH (Tuesday and Friday Morning)*
Experience a powerful and innovative method of strength training in the water, using safe but challenging omni-directional resistance equipment.  This interval style class has been designed for the serious exerciser who is fit and wanting a new and successful way to improve their overall muscular strength and endurance. Water Shoes are highly recommended.

SPECIALTY CLASSES

GENTLE EXERCISE
A 45-minute, twice-a-week exercise session for those wanting to become active. Class size is kept small to allow for individual attention and instruction. Participants will work on gradually increasing their cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and flexibility along with improved joint mobility. Persons wishing to exercise at a gentle pace and/or who have medical concerns will enjoy and benefit from this class.

AQUA ZUMBA
This is a fun, challenging, yet safe 45 min shallow water work-out that incorporates the Zumba dance formula and philosophy into traditional aqua-fitness. The intense dance movements add fantastic resistance to all major muscle groups, especially the core!

TUESDAY EVENING SERIOUS STRENGTH 
Experience a powerful and innovative method of strength training in the water, using safe but challenging omni-directional resistance equipment. This interval style class has been designed for the serious exerciser who is fit and wanting a new and successful way to improve their overall muscular strength and endurance. Water Shoes are highly recommended.

WEDNESDAY EVENING WATER RUNNING
This is an advanced class geared toward the fit to very fit participant. Class size is limited due to pool space. See “Water Running” for description.

PERSONAL ONE-ON-ONE
Work with a qualified instructor who will help you to reach your personal goals. Ideal for rehabilitation, anyone new to Aquafitness, or wanting to get more out of their water workouts. This may be a single session or several sessions and is scheduled at a time suitable for you and the instructor. Please call the Aquatics Director at 403-338-2408.

Registration is required for all specialty classes and is continuous. Accounts will be billed monthly until a cancellation form is completed. Cancellations must be made prior to the first of the month. There are no drop-ins.
