The Calgary Winter Club has 7 international standard courts and one doubles court, all glass back and including one exhibition court with glass side wall. All courts have viewing from behind back wall and from above.
Lessons are available for the very youngest of juniors to full time playing professionals and the coaching team is on hand to provide something for everyone – all ages and levels. Adult Programs – from complete beginners up to open level players we have a session for you!
ASHLEY READ, HEAD SQUASH PROFESSIONAL
Ashley hails from Lancashire, England. He started playing squash at a relatively late age of 14. He fell in love with the sport straight away reveling in the mix of speed, stamina and strategy. As a player Ashley reached his peak in his late twenties while playing professionally in European events. Ashley’s became a qualified coach in his early twenties and his first professional position was in Kriens Switzerland where is was player/coach for two seasons, during his two seasons Ashley helped the men’s team get promoted two tiers of Swiss squash to the top national league, Ashley also won many local and international tournaments and was ranked as high as ten in the Swiss national rankings. Returning to England Ashley took over as Head Squash Professional at the Winchester Tennis and Squash club a prestigious club in southern England, during his time there he developed a strong program including many highly ranked junior players, he also coached at national level with the England National Junior setup and gained the England Squash Level 4 Elite coaching certification, widely regarded as the highest coaching qualification in the squash world. While at Winchester Ashley oversaw the Winchester Super League team, definitely the highest level of team squash in the world at the time, the Winchester squad had several world class players including top five ranked in the world and multiple world champions. After seven years in Winchester Ashley moved to Philadelphia and worked for two years at the Germantown Cricket Club where he was again able to help elevate their program to new levels, he introduced many new initiatives and ideas as well as developing top players. He also coached the national juniors at several squads. In 2006 Ashley took over as the Head Squash Professional at the Calgary Winter Club. During his time Ashley has brought his experiences from his previous roles and reinvigorated the squash program with many new initiatives for both adult and junior players. The program has grown to over 200 adults and150 juniors playing annually and is regarded as one of the finest in the country. Many of the juniors have achieved top 10 national junior rankings.

SUSIE KING, ASSISTANT SQUASH PROFESSIONAL
Susie came to the Calgary Winter Club in 2008. Prior to moving to Canada Susie competed on the world squash tour reaching a World Ranking high of number 64. As a junior she represented England with a 3rd place finish in the world junior championships. Whilst in Canada Susie maintained her competitive playing career at a national and provincial level, she reached a national high of number 4 and a provincial high of number 1. Last year Susie was selected to represent Canada at the World Women’s Team Championships in France, an amazing opportunity to have represented two different countries at an international level. This past year Susie attained her Level 3 Canadian Coaching Certification, she is now level 3 certified in both Canada and the UK. This season Susie is looking to better and has begun her Level 4 high performance coaching diploma. She is extremely excited about being able to continue to take her coaching to the next level.

GLENN STARK, ASSISTANT SQUASH PROFESSIONAL
Glenn, born and raised in the city of Calgary, attended both the University of Calgary and The National Coaching Institute (NCI) graduating with a Physical Education Degree and a Diploma in High Performance Coaching. He is current with his NCCP Level Four and looking to complete the remaining Level Five requirements. With his coaching experience starting in the late 80’s he has now returned to the Calgary Winter Club after a 21 year absence. Glenn’s level and experience of coaching extends the realm of a Club Professional and junior competitive squash. Glenn has been the coach and attended the following events for Canada: the Provincial and Canada Winter Games, National Championships, Pan American Individual and Team Championships along with the highlight of coaching at four World Junior Women’s Championships
Glenn has also excelled as a Club Professional within the club program industry. He has provided long term development and guidance to seven different national squash and open junior champions along with six world team members. Eight of these players have gone onto attend and play in the College Squash Association (Harvard, Princeton and Cornell) and two of them are currently on the Canadian Men’s Team competing on the Men’s Professional Squash tour.
For ten years, as a Canadian national coach, Glenn was able to travel around the world and coach at International events hosted in Egypt, Belgium, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, Guatemala, Jamaica, Guyana and the Cayman Islands. While in the Caribbean, as the Cayman Islands National Coach, Glenn re -focused his attention to the development of squash and junior squash on the island. From infancy, Glenn established a national school squash program, which in just o two years embraced the participation of over 2000 local school children. A major highlight and compliment to the hard work of Glenn and the young athletes he was working with, Glenn coached and mentored the youngest Caribbean Junior Champion.
Paying not all his focus on junior squash, Glenn was instrumental in raising the profile of international senior squash in the Caribbean by hosting the Caribbean Senior Squash Championships, a WISPA Tour event and the prestigious 2012 World Women’s Squash Championships.
